Cartiere Carrara Awarded EcoVadis Gold Medal for Sustainability

Cartiere Carrara Awarded EcoVadis Gold Medal for Sustainability

Cartiere Carrara has been awarded the EcoVadis Gold Medal, placing it among the top 5% of companies worldwide assessed for sustainability. With an overall score of 79/100, the Group confirms both the effectiveness of its sustainable development journey and the robustness of its integrated management system, which oversees environmental, social, and governance aspects.

This achievement reflects the company’s outstanding performance in environmental protection, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement, highlighting continuous improvement across all areas of evaluation.

A Recognition that Rewards Genuine Commitment

The Gold Medal represents an important acknowledgement of Cartiere Carrara’s systematic commitment to building a sustainable business model, fully aligned with its “Caring for what’s next” Vision and its 2023–2025 Sustainability Plan.

Structured around ten sustainability pillars, the plan translates the Group’s strategy into concrete operational goals consistent with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the European Green Deal, and applies across all companies within the Group.

This year, the Group voluntarily published its Sustainability Report, drawn up for the first time in accordance with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) required by the CSRD Directive. This marks a significant step forward in the company’s ongoing commitment to greater transparency and accountability.

Consistency and Continuity: Achievements and Future Outlook

The EcoVadis recognition is part of a long-term journey that also includes joining the United Nations Global Compact in 2024, supporting the Ten Universal Principles on human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption.

In 2024, Cartiere Carrara achieved notable results that demonstrate the tangible impact of its commitments. Water consumption decreased by 8.6% compared with 2022, while installed photovoltaic capacity increased by 193%, significantly boosting self-production of renewable energy.

At the same time, the company completed the reporting of greenhouse gas emissions (Scopes 1, 2 and 3) and carried out Life Cycle Assessments for all products, with the aim of further improving understanding and management of environmental impacts throughout each product’s life cycle.

Among its environmental responsibility initiatives, the “The Paper that Plants Trees” project stands out, having led to the planting of 14,185 trees. Progress was also made in health and safety at work, with a 48% reduction in the number of accidents and a 58% drop in accident rates compared with 2022.

From a human resources perspective, the Group significantly increased its investment in training, delivering 14,766 hours of instruction – an average of 20.4 hours per employee, representing a 67% increase on the previous year. Employment stability remains a defining strength: 98% of the workforce are employed on permanent contracts, reaffirming the company’s commitment to continuity and internal professional growth.

Looking Ahead

Cartiere Carrara continues to pursue a sustainable growth model focused on creating shared, long-term value. The company’s decarbonisation plan, currently being implemented, includes joining the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), underscoring its concrete commitment to contributing to global emissions reduction goals.

Strong emphasis is also placed on integrating ESG criteria into supplier selection and supply chain management, in order to extend principles of responsibility and transparency throughout the entire value chain. At the same time, the Group continues to invest in employee wellbeing and skills development, recognising human capital as the key driver of innovation and sustainability.

In terms of governance, Cartiere Carrara is strengthening its ESG management model through the creation of a Sustainability Committee and the introduction of increasingly integrated and accessible periodic reporting practices.

“The achievement of the EcoVadis Gold Medal marks an important milestone in our sustainability journey. It confirms the seriousness with which Cartiere Carrara addresses this challenge and, at the same time, expresses our commitment to continue with the same determination towards a future that is increasingly responsible, innovative, and focused on creating shared value.”
